OMBIT DX Ear Drops 5 ml belongs to the class of ‘corticosteroid with antibiotic’, primarily used to treat bacterial infections. Bacterial infections are caused due to the multiplication of harmful bacteria inside or on the body.

OMBIT DX Ear Drops 5 ml contains Dexamethasone and Ofloxacin. Dexamethasone belongs to the class of corticosteroids. It blocks the production of prostaglandins (chemical messengers) that make the affected area red, swollen, and itchy. Ofloxacin belongs to a class of drugs called quinolone antibiotics. It is bactericidal (kills bacteria) and works by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase, an enzyme required for the replication, transcription, and repair of the DNA.

Use OMBIT DX Ear Drops 5 ml in the dose and duration prescribed by your doctor based on your medical condition. OMBIT DX Ear Drops 5 ml is generally safe to use. However, some may experience side effects like nausea, dizziness, eye discomfort, eye irritation, burning sensation, dryness, stinging, redness, and itching. Most of these side effects of OMBIT DX Ear Drops 5 ml do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. If these side effects persist longer, please consult your doctor.

OMBIT DX Ear Drops 5 ml treats various bacterial infections of the eye and ear. It contains Dexamethasone and Ofloxacin. Dexamethasone is a corticosteroid and blocks prostaglandins’ production (chemical messengers) that make the affected area red, swollen and itchy. - Directions for Use
Ear drops: Do not touch the dropper and hold it close to the ear by tilting your head to the side. Gently squeeze the dropper and put the ear drops inside the ear. Keep your head tilted for a minute to let the drops soak in.Eye drops: Tilt your head back and pull your lower eyelid downwards and outwards. Gently squeeze the dropper and put the eye drops inside the eye/eyes. Blink a few times to spread the medication inside your eye. It is advisable to press gently on the eyelid’s inner corner for 3 minutes to prevent the solution from draining into the nose and throat, especially in children. If you are using more than one drop, it is advised to wait for about 5 minutes between drops. Eye and ear drops are meant for topical use only.

Do not drive or operate machinery if you experience any burning sensation in the eyes, dizziness and other visual disturbances while using OMBIT DX Ear Drops 5 ml. OMBIT DX Ear Drops 5 ml is not recommended for use in infants younger than one year of age.
Drug Interactions
Drug-Drug Interaction: OMBIT DX Ear Drops 5 ml may interact with fits medicine (phenytoin, phenobarbitone), respiratory medicines (ephedrine), antibiotics (rifampicin), and HIV/AIDS drugs (ritonavir, cobicistat)
Drug-Food Interaction: It is advised to limit alcohol intake while using OMBIT DX Ear Drops 5 ml.
Drug-Disease Interaction: OMBIT DX Ear Drops 5 ml is contraindicated in epithelial keratitis (foreign body sensation in the eye), viral diseases of the conjunctiva and cornea (parts of the eye), mycobacterial infection, and fungal infections of the eye.

Safety and effectiveness of OMBIT DX Ear Drops 5 ml in infants below the age of one year have not been established. If Otodac DX Ear Drops 5 ml is prescribed for children, your doctor may ask to stop the course within five days since it may lead to adrenal suppression (adrenal glands don’t produce enough hormones) in infants.

Diet & Lifestyle Advise
Antibiotics can alter the useful bacteria in the stomach. Therefore, you are advised to take foods rich in probiotics such as yoghurt/curd, kefir, sauerkraut, tempeh, kimchi, miso, kombucha, buttermilk, natto, and cheese.
Eat fibre rich food like whole grains, beans, lentils, berries, broccoli, peas, and bananas.
Avoid foods rich in calcium, grapefruit and grapefruit juice as they might hinder antibiotics’ absorption.
If you have diarrhoea try to drink appropriate amounts of fluids to avoid dehydration.
If you have minor diarrhoea (less than four stools daily), drinking caffeine-free soft drinks, juices, or sport rehydration drinks can be sufficient.
If the diarrhoea is more severe, specially formulated rehydration drinks should be taken.
Avoid intake of alcoholic beverages with OMBIT DX Ear Drops 5 ml as it can make you dehydrated and may affect your sleep. This can make it harder for your body to aid the OMBIT DX Ear Drops 5 ml in fighting off infections.
Special Advise
OMBIT DX Ear Drops 5 ml contains Ofloxacin which might produce false-positive urine screening results for opiates. Inform the laboratory staff that you are taking OMBIT DX Ear Drops 5 ml.
Monitor your blood sugar levels regularly since Ofloxacin may affect your glucose levels in diabetes.
Quinolone antibiotics like Ofloxacin may cause QT prolongation (heart muscle takes longer than normal to recharge between beats) in electrocardiogram (ECG) in some patients.
